Next ON is RoCk

Two of my all time favorite flicks have been DCH and JHANKAAR BEATS and yesterday i got to revive their 'magik' by watching 'ROCK ON'.
All courtesy Midmac's newly caught fish 'APTE BABA', had a blast watching the movie much talked about. Pretty much like the two mentioned above,ROCK ON boasts of decent storyline, gud music(although didn't like it when heard before seeing the movie, but now, totally mad) and a strange zing that never loses on u.

STORY: is predictable but u never want to come out of the flow, little slow(esp after interval) but u would never want it to pace up, few unused or unwanted plots like Farhan Akhtar's(Adi) pre- marital love or may be Luke's(Rob) final stage brain tumor but u dont want the same boilerplate drama, or may be the ego spat between Farhan and Arjun Rampal(Joe) but again there u desperately want them to patch up and get down to their 'magik muzik'.
All in all, story about the reunion of a rock band, initiated by the lead singer's wife(played by Prachi Desai) after a split(that happened ten years ago), projects to be different and involving.

MUSIC:
is fresh with new throats used (esp Farhan Akhtar) which makes it raw and so re-listenable. An awesome use of 'sticks and strings' which stands out(karaoke the songs and u feel the real stuff). Broken and graffiti lyrics adorn the scores with a oozing masti feel.
take this,
'meri laundry ka ek bill,
ek aadhi padhi novel,

ek ladki ka phone no.,
mere kaam ka ek paper'

A sure stuff to bang your head on.
My fav one being, ' TUM HO TO'. Excellently sung.

ACTS: Farhan Akhtar simply rocks, first as a lead singer of a rock band and then as an investment banker, doesn't look like a fresher in acting.Nothing much comes for Purab Kohli(KD) and Luke Kenny(Rob) except some comic lines and a 'brain tumor' respectively.
Same for Prachi Desai, who gets to thank her husband's ex-galfriend and the role of throwing husband's b'day party to start the reunion process. The performances that stand out is of Arjun Rampal and his onscreen wife Shahana Goswami, both brilliantly done. With Arjun Rampal sizzling as an ethical, long-haired lead guitarist and Shahana Goswami perfectly handling the 'family macchi business' having dropped her fashion designer dreams.

SCENES WORTH SPECIAL MENTION:

1) The band playing 'saanson ki zaroorat' in a dandia night , in their style with non-blinking faces to collect funds for their instruments. One can't stop laughter on it.

2) A compromise and then signature on the album contract with the 'close to heart' song being scrapped to pave way for a petty remix just to catch up with the shaadi season.

3) Climax scene with Arjun Rampal on strings, in the crowd, after having ditched 'a much needed job' just to play for the final time for his band.
A mind blowing one, you want to jump in the crowd to feel the vibes of a rocking rock show.

In all, a great movie with flaws you would want to overlook.
A definite one to get the 'cult status'.

keep trying

have been trying not to match 'it',

have been trying not to like 'it',

have been trying not to think of 'it',

have been trying not to get fidgety of 'it',

have been trying not to bruit 'it',

have been trying not to follow 'it',

have been trying not to yearn for 'it',

but deep inside of me,
the facts are homed,
the efforts are futile,
because
the flame is too yellow to extinguish,
the rein is too tenacious to loosen,
it's too green for autumn to set in,
and am too big a dolt to understand.

yellow fever ...

It has been the topmost thing on my mind to write upon but just cudn't get sum good time to put my thoughts together.
The 'rejection', for which i ditched an 'opportunity', made me pretty lackadaisical for sometime.
But before it, i faced 'the thing' ,which 1.1 billion other Indians also did and that was 'goosebumps of winning an OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL' . Sumthing my generation has felt for the first time (considering the fact that the last time 'it' happened was 28 years ago).

Mr. Bindra's feat is certainly a huge thing to have happened to our country's already fragile sporting (minus cricket of course) fraternity. Sumthing that will certainly inspire thousands. The first story starting at Beijing itself when another 'haryanwi' , pugilist AKHIL KUMAR after seeing Bindra, decides to aim nothing less than a gold. After beating world champion, Sergey Vodapoyanov of Russia,in pre-quaterfinals, Akhil says, "He (Sergey) is a world champion. It was a tough fight, but I am here to win gold. No silver, no bronze, but only the gold. There is nothing like being No.1 and I want to be No. 1,". Now he says that he wants a 'a piece of yellow metal' that is only his. In his own words, "Abhinav(Bindra) has just showed us the way and I want to follow in his footsteps".

None of us would want to forget the following famous picture.

All thanks and salutes to Mr. Bindra for blessing us with the best gift for the 62nd independence day.Not just the medal, but most importantly, the belief that 'anyone can aim and achieve the pinnacle', be it anything.

hmmmm...!!!

rue not , for something u didn't try,

think not, of something u didn't think,

many aspirations still left, to be
converted to achievements,

egress not, out of something u haven't yet
gone in.

ek H aur

the two most visible things in chennai were mad Rajnikant fans and glorifying posters of political personalities of different parties, all of whom , for reasons unknown to me, had only red and black colours on their 'flags'.
well the 'rajni thing', which struck me today, made me read the preview of his latest movie, 'kuselan'. nothing abt the reviews but it rekindled one strange fact i observed back in chennai.
It was the inappropriate (at least i found it) use of the alphabet 'h' and the word that made me recall the 'h' saga, was the name of one of the actors of the movie named 'Pasupathy'.
Pronounced as पशुपत, the spell didn't go well with me when i first encountered it. i thought , instead of following 's' the 'high h' slipped to the place after 't'. But after a little more 'journalism', i realized it was not the slippage but the ingrained habit of using an xtraa 'h' after 't'.
Some examples, 'sangeetHa', 'saktHi', 'Anbu UmapatHi(another name)' etc etc , the god of all being ताज महल spelt as ' tHaj mahal'.
Ha ha.. above was just too much for me to handle, so just went to clarify the concept with a friend of mine, who told me the reason for this 'h' obsession is their way of putting as 'tha'. After a long discussion none of us were ready to back off,so no results.
Theek hai, koi baat nahin, but going by their 'habit' shouldn't
तमिल नाडू be spelt as 'tHamil nadu'..???
just imagine, a tHaj mahal for MumtHaj .
:)
